But in all seriousness, I'd love to see a blog where I can actually learn about different car parts, how they work and where they go. Ever since I started reading the FP and Oppo a few years ago, I've realized I don't know jack shit about cars.
People could write about things like how locking diffs work, or why tires/tyres have tread, etc. It would help us younger readers, and maybe even some of you older guys. Lots of Opponauts are engineers and mechanics etc. so this seems like it could work.
Or maybe I just didn't get enough sleep.

Yes. Tires have a grippy surface, and the treads are cut into it. The treads are the grippy surface and the groves are cut in so that water is forced in and displaced from the road. The more groves you have and the wider they are, the less grippy surface is making contact with the road.
